Miss Representation
I really liked the documentary "Miss Representation" that we watched in class this week. I always hated how the media tends to objectify women in commercials and on movies, but I never realized that part of the reason why is because mostly men are behind it all! There are not very many women involved in the high ups that are able to stand up for the individual worth of women. Because of that, women are usually portrayed on TV as ditsy, unintelligent, needy, emotional, and unstable. It is so sad to see that because it makes real women feel bad about themselves. Women have so much more to them. They can and should be intelligent, influential, and respected. There are not enough shows, movies, or commercials that portray the real worth and potential of strong, positive, powerful women. I am glad that this documentary was made to open our eyes and educate us!

Little random-ish personal insight about that. The media can portray a physical image in an instant, so focusing on physical features allows quicker illustration of the supposed value of a women. If the media (falsely) teaches people what an ideal woman is, what she looks like, and that her looks are what matters, and there aren't exactly very many women out there that fit this ideal, then the only place for people to go to “find” these women is the media... hooked on media; what they want; for men to keep coming back. (The documentary mentioned that women coming back to the media (hooked) is pretty much a given, or natural; little effort needed to get them to do so; so the focus is on getting the men hooked.) Men looking for valuable women, or woman they'd want in their lives, now have only one place to go for the (supposedly) perfect woman; the media! The place where in an instant, great value in a woman (contingent primarily on her physical attractiveness, as defined by the media) can (supposedly) be illustrated in a brief moment.
